This week, Uljanik Brodogradilište (Uljanik Shipyard) in Pula, Croatia, started with the construction of Jan De Nul’s new Multi-Purpose Vessel JDN8628.
The versatile vessel will operate as a trenching and offshore support vessel, a subsea rock installation vessel and a cable laying vessel.
It can be equipped with two cable turntables with a total capacity of 10,000 tonnes. For subsea rock installation, the vessel can carry up to 10,000 tonnes of rock. The rock is unloaded by two excavators and discharged through a fall pipe with ROV down to water depths of about 400 m. The fall pipe installation is a further development of the system used on the vessels La Boudeuse and Willem De Vlamingh, but has been adapted to install rock at greater depths.
Two active heave compensated cranes, an A-frame and a workclass ROV further enhance the capabilities of the vessel.
The yet unnamed vessel will be launched by the end of this year, and will be operational by mid-2015.
