Ocean Rig UDW Inc., a global provider of offshore deepwater drilling services, has signed definitive documentation, following the previously announced contract award, for the 6 year contract for drilling operations offshore Angola.

The contract is for its ultra deepwater drillship the Ocean Rig Skyros, with Total E&P Angola Block 32. The contract is expected to begin in the third quarter of 2015 and has an estimated backlog of $1.3 billion.

The Ocean Rig Skyros is the 7th Generation Deep Water Drillship with Enhanced SAIPEM 10000 Design. The rig was built at Samsung Heavy Industries Shipyard in South Korea. The rig has dual activity capabilities and design for drilling operations in water depths from 500 meters to 3650 meters.

Ocean Rig is an international offshore drilling contractor providing oilfield services for offshore oil and gas exploration, development and production drilling, and specializing in the ultra-deepwater and harsh-environment segment of the offshore drilling industry. The company owns and operates 13 offshore ultra deepwater drilling units, comprising of 2 ultra deepwater semisubmersible drilling rigs and 11 ultra deepwater drillships.
