Ireland’s Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine has issued tender invitation for the maintenance dredging and disposal of contaminated sediment at Dunmore East Fishery Harbour Centre (DEFHC).

The work will comprise of dredging to the design dredge depths illustrated on the tender drawings and the disposal of the dredged material at a suitable licensed disposal facility.

The project has a value of EUR 3 million, and it is expected to start in August, and the completion date is planned to be September 30, 2014.

Chemical analysis has shown that most of the proposed dredge material is contaminated with heavy metals and TBT and cannot be disposed of at sea.

The extent of the dredge area is approx. 28,000m². Approx. 20,000m³ to 30,000m³ of material is to be removed from the harbour.
