Glacier Energy Services is expanding its industrial facilities in Scotland in support of ongoing growth in the energy sector, investing £1million and creating an initial 10 jobs with the opening of a new workshop and warehouse facility at Dalgety Bay, Fife.
The oilfield service provider has moved into a 15,000 sq ft facility at Dalgety Bay, bringing the capabilities of its offshore division closer to clients carrying out new construction and existing asset refurbishment and maintenance projects in the area.
And the group has already won new contracts, worth £1million across the supply chain which are being delivered from Fife, where recruitment for additional engineers and technicians is expected to continue during the year ahead.
Glacier’s offshore division, headquartered in Aberdeen, provides complementary specialist technical services in support of inspection, repair and maintenance activities on existing assets, and new-build capital projects in offshore exploration and production.
Its industry-leading heat exchanger business Ross Offshore, pipe-cutting equipment manufacturer Roberts Pipeline Machining and technical support provider Site Machining Services will each operate from the base. The facility, at St David’s Business Park, is Glacier’s second major investment in central Scotland following its purchase of Methil-based NDT specialist Professional Testing Services in February.
Mark Derry , managing director of Glacier’s offshore division, says: “We have significant activity in Fife and opening this workshop is a natural step, complementing our main energy sector base in Aberdeen as we grow the business.
“There is a synergy across our businesses which will often bring colleagues from Ross Offshore, Roberts Pipeline Machining, Site Machining Services and PTS together on the same projects, and this new facility ensures we are able to deliver directly in an area of increasingly high activity.
“Added to our existing bases in Aberdeen, Glasgow and Newcastle, we now operate from four key locations which play a vital role in the delivery of new facilities and refurbishment projects for the sector.
“We have already appointed 10 additional heat exchanger engineers for the new workshop at Dalgety Bay, and will be recruiting more people for the base over the coming year, in addition to providing support to the team from our existing base in Aberdeen.”
Glacier was formed in 2011, to acquire highly respected pipeline machining company Roberts and renowned welding services specialist Wellclad. The group continues to grow through a buy-and-build strategy, with Site Machining Services purchased in 2012, Ross Offshore in 2013 and Professional Testing Services in 2014.
