The City Government of Balanga plans to reduce incidents of flooding in the city and minimize their adverse effects when the rainy season comes this year.

Employing a two-pronged approach, the city government has invested on infrastructure to control flooding and reforestation to prevent it.

Collaborating actively with the city government, the Provincial Engineer’s Office (PEO) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) have also undertaken flood control projects for the city, some of which have already been completed. PEO teamed up with the city government in desilting projects and construction of drainage systems.

On the other hand, DPWH has allocated P54-M for dredging of a four-kilometer stretch from the Sibacan River to the Cataning River. The project has already been bid out and will start this month.

Another P20-M is earmarked for dredging of the Talisay River-Draga Section. Program of DPWH for this project is still being prepared and will be submitted to Secretary Rogelio D. Singson for approval.
