The Quezon City government is set to rehabilitate three of its major waterways to lessen floods during heavy rains and to transform their surroundings into tourist attractions.

Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte-Alimurung said that the three waterways which will undergo fare-lift are the San Francisco River in the first district and Pasong Tamo Creek and Culiat Creek in the sixth district.

According to Belmonte, the rehabilitation of the three waterways also aims to attract tourists with the presence of linear parks that will make the river/creek environment fresh and green.

Belmonte explained that the three tributaries will be divided into three improvement packages, where each package contains segment of work such as collection of solid wastes, claim of the three-meter legal easement, dredging works, bank improvement, linear park development and community development.

She said that the rehabilitation will be undertaken in cooperation with the Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission (PPRC).
