HVDC topside of Siemens’ HelWin beta converter platform left Heerema Fabrication Group’s (HFG) yard in Zwijndrecht on Saturday, June 14.

The topside was transported to Schiedam for the last fabrication activities.

Last week , the HelWin beta topside was loaded onto the H-542 barge, operated by Heerema Marine Contractors, a sister division of Heerema Fabrication Group.

The jacket of the HelWin beta platform was successfully placed at its position in the German part of the North Sea in April .

HFG’s CEO Koos-Jan van Brouwershaven said: “This EPCI project stands out because of its complexity and size. We managed and built both the jacket and topside in a relatively short period of 20 months, a significant performance and quite unique for wind energy projects. The project’s complexity is due to the fact that a closed structure will be installed offshore which will have a controlled and acclimatized environment on the inside.”

The converter platform is one of the main components of the TenneT DC offshore grid connection ‘HelWin2′. The connection with a capacity of 690 MW will connect a large wind farm cluster in the German sector of the North Sea.
