Cornwall-based company, Seatricity, expects to see its energy device connected at Wave Hub this weekend, according to BBC News.

The company is developing Oceanus device that harnesses the power of waves.

This device comprises aluminium float that travels up and down with the waves thus operating a pump to pressurise seawater. The seawater is then pumped onshore where it drives a hydroelectric turbine to produce electricity.

Prior to the production of electricity, the sea trials could last up to 12 months, said the company.

Wave Hub project, located 16 kilometers off Hayle, consists of ‘socket’ sitting on the seabed for up to four wave energy converters to be plugged into.

Wave Hub managing director Claire Gibson said: “We have been working closely with Seatricity on their first deployment at Wave Hub.

“The mooring system has been installed over the last few weeks and we look forward to them taking up their berth as our first customer.”
