Germany’s wind energy developer, Windreich, got an extension of the deadline for the start of its MEG 1 offshore wind project located in the German North Sea.

Windreich now has until 26 February 2016 to start the construction in order to keep the licence for the project.

According to the original approval issued in 2009, the deadline was set for 30 April 2014.

As the company filed for insolvency in September last year, this 22-month extension will give Windreich more time to improve its finances.

The 400MW wind farm, located 45 km north of Borkum, will comprise eighty 5 MW wind turbines, covering an area of 40 square kilometers.
