RDS, the rig design and engineering specialist, has been awarded a contract by Wood Group Mustang to carry out pre-FEED work on Statoil’s proposed Snorre C Tension Leg Platform (TLP) in the North Sea.

The Snorre field, spanning blocks 34/4 and 34/7 in the Tampen area of the Norwegian North Sea, is located at a water depth between 300-350 metres and is operated by Statoil on behalf of the Snorre partners.

The pre-FEED work will be undertaken by the RDS team in London who will carry out the full design of the drilling facilities on the TLP.

With preparations underway, a team of 15 – 20 engineering and management personnel at RDS will work on the Snorre C drilling facility design for the next five months.

Simon Drew, Senior Vice President of RDS, said: “We are extremely proud to be selected by Wood Group Mustang in the early stages of this key development.

“This Project builds on our workload of Statoil Projects and strengthens our portfolio of TLP rig designs. We look forward to applying our experience and collaborating closely with Wood Group Mustang and their customers and partners to meet the goals of this phase of the Snorre development.”

RDS is the rig design and engineering subsidiary of international drilling contractor, KCA Deutag. The company has an established pedigree in delivering rig engineering at every stage of design, construction and modification for projects across the world.
