Last week (Thursday 26th June), the Port of Milford Haven welcomed Mike Penning MP, the Minister of State responsible for the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), where he was given an update on new safety systems and current port projects.
The visit began at Pembroke Port where the Minister had the opportunity to see first-hand the construction of Tidal Energy Ltd.’s DeltaStream Device, which is being assembled on the quayside. Martin Murphy, Managing Director of Tidal Energy Ltd, said: “It was a pleasure to discuss the opportunities for UK marine renewable energy with the Minister at Pembroke Port yesterday, and to show him TEL’s DeltaStream tidal energy prototype device which is due to be deployed in Ramsey Sound later this summer.”
Corporate Affairs Director at the Port of Milford Haven, Mark Andrews, then hosted a trip on the Waterway where he was able to discuss in detail the management of safety at the UK’s third largest Port.
“The visit provided an excellent opportunity to update the Minister on some of our newest systems and procedures” , said Mark . “We have an excellent safety record but do not want to become complacent. To continuously improve safety, our highest priority at the Port, we have introduced new internal systems that promote a strong health and safety culture and vigilance at all levels within the organisation, and it was great to be able to share this latest development with the Minister.”
Minister of State Rt. Hon. Mike Penning said: “It was great to see the Port of Milford Haven’s absolute dedication to safety and its commitment to always updating its systems and procedures. The team I met do excellent work in keeping Wales’ largest port operating safely and effectively.”
