The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, is initiating a study to improve habitat at and around McGregor Lake of the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge near Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin.

The public is invited to attend an informational open house concerning this study. The meeting will be held Thursday, July 31, 2014, from 6-8 p.m., in the community room at the Prairie du Chien City Hall, 214 East Blackhawk Avenue, Prairie du Chien.

The public is also welcome to inquire about other Army Corps habitat projects being planned for the Mississippi River to include Conway Lake and projects in Pool 9.

The Corps will be studying ways to improve fish and wildlife habitat in and around McGregor Lake. Possible activities include dredging to increase the water depth, placing dredged material to benefit trees and/or installing erosion protection to improve water clarity and water quality. The Corps is beginning this study this year and anticipates completing it in 2015.

It is being completed under the authority of the Upper Mississippi River Restoration-Environmental Management Program. An estimate of project cost and possible construction schedule will be determined during the study.
