WEDA’s Chair of the Environmental Commission, Craig Vogt, announced the 2014 winners of the WEDA Environmental Excellence Awards at the organization’s annual conference held at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

The WEDA Environmental Excellence Awards are given annually in two categories: navigation dredging and environmental dredging.

For navigation dredging:

The 2014 WEDA Environmental Excellence Award for Navigation Dredging was given to:

Port of Kalama, TEMCO Berth Maintenance Dredging and In-water Flow-Lane Placement Project (Port of Kalama, Washington)

Project Team Members:

– Port of Kalama;

– Coast & Harbor Engineering;

– BergerABAM.

The 2014 WEDA Silver Environmental Excellence Award for Navigation Dredging was given to:

Stockton Deep Water Ship Channel Dredging and Antioch Dunes Restoration Project (Port of Stockton, California)

Project Team Members:

– U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service;

– U.S. Army Corps of Engineers- Sacramento District;

– Port of Stockton.

For environmental dredging:

The 2014 WEDA Environmental Excellence Award for Environmental Dredging was given to:

Environmental Dredging of the Sheboygan River, Wisconsin

Project Team Members:

– U.S. EPA Great Lakes Office;

– Ryba Marine Construction Company;

– Terra Contracting Services;

– CH2M Hill;

– TechLaw;

– The Environmental Quality Company;

– Global Environmental Engineering.

The 2014 WEDA Environmental Excellence Silver Award for Environmental Dredging was given to:

Hudson River PCBs Superfund Site

Project Team Members:

– U.S. EPA Region 2;

– U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Kansas City District;

– Ecology and Environment Inc;

– Louis Berger Group Inc;

– General Electric Company;

– Parsons Corporation;

– Cashman Dredging;

– Chicago Bridge & Iron Company;

– Arcadis;

– Anchor QEA.

President & Chairman of the Board of Directors, Ram Mohan , noted that “the overall quality of this year’s nominations was excellent, and these four projects were found to be outstanding in environmental benefits, innovation, economic benefits, and transferability.”

WEDA Vice President, Marcel Hermans , said: “I am totally impressed with the planning, engineering, and outreach to stakeholders that was incorporated into these projects, all of which led to achieving outstanding environmental benefits.”
