A submarine cable, part of the operation to divert a 939-kilometre-long fibre optic cable between the UK and Spain to the Isles of Scilly, was pulled ashore on Wednesday.

As BT news portal reports, the residents of the Isles of Scilly will be able to order high-speed fibre broadband by the end of the year.

The project is being funded by the European Regional Development Fund, BT and Cornwall Council.

It has the aim to make fibre broadband available to 95 per cent of homes and premises on Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
