Joe Toland, who proposed a tidal lagoon project in the Bristol Channel, plans to prove the viability of its massive energy project by simulating a shipwreck off Cornwall.
“My goal is tidal technology and by developing this artificial ship project using 21st century materials and technology it will replicate what would be in effect a 60m section of the proposed lagoon wall to prove it a viable proposition,” Western Morning News quotes Joe Toland as saying.
This GBP 3 million project would be developed in two years time. For the construction of the vessel named SS Nautilus, Mr. Toland has established the Devon & Cornwall Lagoon Wall Partnership with companies A&P, Bisso and Pipex. The companies would build the vessel using non-corrosive laminated materials.
The proposed tidal lagoon would be 42km long, 6km wide, and would provide clean energy to more than 4 million households.
