Ahmed El-Tayyeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, has urged Egyptians to support the New Suez Canal Project.

During a visit to the project, Tayyeb said the New Suez Canal was a challenge to Egyptians that would show the strength, steadfastness and will of Egyptians.

He was received upon his arrival at the scene by Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority Mohab Mamish and watched a documentary on the history of the Canal until the New Suez Canal project was initiated.

Tayyeb met workers at the project and encouraged them to exert their utmost effort for the development of their own country, calling on the Minister of Education to amend the curriculums to allocate part in the history curriculum to the Suez Canal.

He also called on governors to arrange trips to the Suez Canal to encourage workers and boost internal tourism.
