Dredging works on the rivers Parrett and Tone are in full swing, according to the Environment Agency latest report on the progress being made on the Levels and Moors Flood Action Plan (FAP).
“ We have dredged a length of 4 km of river (8 km of total river bank length) on the Parrett and Tone and are now officially at the half way point, ” reported the agency. “ We’ve removed approximately 77,500m³ of silt and remain on programme to complete work by the end of October.”
Dredging continues on both banks of the River Parrett at Westonzoyland Pumping Station, and on both banks further upstream towards the A361 road bridge. On the River Tone works continue with two land based excavators and a floating piece of plant as programmed.
The FAP was produced by a range of organizations, with the involvement of the community and was co-ordinated by Somerset County Council. Initial dredging of an 8km section of the rivers Parrett and Tone started at the end of March.
