In order to improve navigation and boat access, Door County officials have proposed to dredge the harbor and entrance channel at Chaudoir’s Dock County Park in Door County.

A public meeting on the proposed disposal of the dredged material from the harbor will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, at Cherryland Airport, 3538 Park Drive, Sturgeon Bay.

The county has asked DNR to modify the plan of operation for the closed Door County Landfill to allow disposal of approximately 4,000 cubic yards of dredged material on the landfill site. The dredged material would be temporarily stored on approximately one acre of land northeast of the landfill. The dredged material would then be used on the landfill to maintain proper drainage.

The landfill is located on Hainesville road, east of County Highway M, about two miles west of the airport. The DNR has made a preliminary determination that the proposed action would not result in significant adverse environmental effects. The purpose of the meeting is to solicit public comment on the proposal.

There will be a brief introduction and explanation of the project by DNR and county representatives followed by questions and comments.
