Lundin Norway AS has received consent from the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway to use Rowan Viking to drill production wells on the Edvard Grieg field in the North Sea, Norway.

Lundin Norway AS is the operator on the Edvard Grieg field in block 16/1 in the central North Sea, around 45 km south of the Grane and Balder fields and 180 km west of Stavanger. Water depth at the site is around 110 metres.

The field has been developed using a fixed wellhead, accommodation and production facility.

The PSA has now given Lundin consent to use the Rowan Viking jack-up drilling rig to drill 15 wells for production and water injection. Drilling will last until autumn 2017, with a break in summer 2015 while the seabed facilities are installed.

Rowan Viking is a mobile jack-up rig, built in Singapore in 2010. It is operated by Rowan Norway Ltd, whose headquarters are in Stavanger.

The rig was issued with an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AOC) by the PSA in August 2014.
