Ghana’s Minister of Transport, Mrs Dzifa Ativor, recently expressed her satisfaction on the ongoing development works at the Tema Port that will improve the port’s operations and meet international standards.

The expansion projects, which started in 2013 at the cost of $120 million, is being executed by Amandi, an international construction engineering firm and is expected to be completed in November 2015, reported Ghana News Agency.

The project includes development of basic port infrastructure such as breakwater, quay wall foundation trenches, and dredging to adequate depths.

In an interview with the GNA during a working visit to the project site, Mrs Ativor said that the project was in line with the government’s promise to improve the Tema and Takoradi ports to be able to handle more vessels.

“ Both ports are undergoing massive expansion work and it is expected that a section of the construction of the breakwater would be completed in October ,” she said.

Mr Richard Anamoo, Director-General of the Tema Port, said that the expansion work would enable the port to accommodate more containers at the berths, with a targeted length of 450 meters and a weight of 50 meters.
