Briggs Environmental Services has completed the annual Clearwater Forth Oil Spill Emergency Response simulation, which took place earlier this month at Cramond.

The ongoing success of these oil spill response simulations is a testament to the environmental plan managed by Forth Ports to protect the estuary in the event of an incident.

Upon completion of the exercise Stuart Foreman, Business Development Manager for Briggs Environmental Services , said: “We have been delighted to take part in Clearwater Forth 2014, the exercise is a big part of our training calendar. It is vital that all companies who are charged with protecting the environment in the Forth Estuary carry out these drills, not only for our own benefit, but more importantly to ensure that we can collectively respond in the event of a real emergency.”

“Today’s exercise went very well and again demonstrated Briggs Environmental Services ability to deal with a large scale oil spill incident. Our operations team deployed booms out into the water quickly and effectively and with no issues, just as we have done at many major oil spills across the world.”

Collaboration for this oil spill response exercise brings together key stakeholders in the Forth and surrounding environment including Forth Ports, Fife and Edinburgh Councils, Maritime and Coastguard Agency, SEPA, Scottish Natural Heritage, Marine Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue, Police Scotland, BP, Shell and local environment agencies.
