The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) has granted Statoil consent for exploration drilling with the semi-submersible drilling rig Transocean Spitsbergen in the Barents Sea.
The consent includes the drilling of exploration well 7227 / 10-1 in production licence 230 in the Barents Sea. The name of the prospect is “Saturn”.
The water depth at the site is roughly 232 meters. The well is located about 116 km from the nearest land, at Kinnarodden in Lebesby/Gamvik municipality in the county of Finnmark.
The drilling is scheduled to start in the second half of October 2014 and it is expected to last for 45 days.
Transocean Spitsbergen is a semi-submersible drilling rig, type Aker H-6e. The rig was completed at Aker Solutions’ yard at Stord in 2009, and it is registered in the Bahamas. The rig was classified by DNV.
The rig received Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) in October 2012.
