ECN, XEMC-Darwind, TU Delft and Avent Lidar Technology are exploring the application of LIDAR technology for wind turbines.
With a LIDAR system it is possible to accurately determine the speed and direction of the wind before it reaches the rotor of a wind turbine. Beside the validation of wind turbine performance, it is also possible to link the LIDAR control to the turbine to optimize performance.
“After tests on our own test field, we are now looking for operators of wind farms that want to apply our knowledge in practice,” says Jan Willem Wagenaar, researcher at ECN.
