Engineering company Monadelphous has been awarded an extension to the facilities management services contract associated with the Gorgon Project operated by Chevron Australia Pty Ltd.

The contract extension, valued at approximately $200 million, is to continue the operation and maintenance of construction facilities and utilities on Barrow Island, Western Australia.

The scope of services includes the operation and maintenance of water and wastewater treatment plants, power generation and distribution systems, as well as the management and maintenance of various buildings, vehicles, plant and equipment. The contract was first secured in November 2009.

More than 200 people will continue to be employed as a result of the contract, Monadelphous has said.

The Gorgon Project is developing the Gorgon and Jansz-Io gas fields, located within the Greater Gorgon area, between 130 and 220 kilometres off the northwest coast of Western Australia.

It includes the construction of a 15.6 million tonne per annum (MTPA) liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant on Barrow Island and a domestic gas plant with the capacity to supply 300 terajoules of gas per day to Western Australia.

Gorgon LNG will be off loaded via a 2.1 kilometre long loading jetty for transport to international markets. The domestic gas will be piped to the Western Australian mainland.
