Official delivery of the Sayuru, a self-propelled grab hopper dredger that was built under the Grant Aid scheme of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), has been scheduled for next week.

Delivery of the dredger to the Ceylon Fishery Harbors Corporation (CFHC) will take place at the Dikkowita Fisheries Harbor. The dredger will be one of the most technically advanced dredgers ever to operate in Sri Lanka.

With the delivery of this new 300m³ grab hopper dredger, CFHC will be able to undertake more maintenance dredging activities in Fishery Harbors. Additionally CFHC will be able to undertake capital dredging works related to harbor improvements or new harbor construction works as well as commercial dredging works.

The vessel, launched on May 29th 2014 at Kegoya Dock Co., Ltd. in Japan, will contribute to sustainable fishing and fisheries livestock in the rural areas of Sri Lanka.
