Channel Islands Harbor Dredging About to Begin

The Channel Islands Harbor dredging project, the largest dredging project ever conducted at the Harbor, is expected to begin within next few days, according to the latest release from the City of Port Hueneme.

Cutter suction dredger HR Morris will take on the project and through the network of pipes that run under the Channel Islands Harbor entrance across Silver Strand Beach and under the Port of Hueneme Harbor entrance, deliver sand to Hueneme Beach.

The schedule calls for approximately 2.25 million cubic yards of sand to be moved to Hueneme Beach through February 2015. The last dredging project, that was finished in January 2013, dredged approx. 600,000 cubic yards of sand.
