Offshore WIND’s photo of the day: Load out of foundations for the Eneco Luchterduinen offshore wind farm.

The photo, sent to Offshore WIND by a reader, captures a moment of the load out work done yesterday (October 13) at the Port of Vlissingen from the Aeolus vessel, which is owned and operated by Van Oord.

Eneco Luchterduinen’s foundations are built as a single component, where the transition piece is fully integrated into the monopile foundation, instead of being built as two separate parts. This reduces costs as less time is required for the offshore installation process and less material is used for the structure.

The offshore wind farm, located 23 kilometres off the coast of the Dutch cities of Noordwijk and Zandvoort, is scheduled to be operational by the end of 2015. With its 43 wind turbines, the wind farm will generate enough green electricity for nearly 150,000 households.
