TenneT TSO B.V. and Energinet.dk, the Dutch and Danish Transmission System Operators (TSOs), are developing an undersea HVDC (High-Voltage Direct Current) interconnector that will directly connect the Dutch and Danish electricity grids to each other.

TSOs have issued a contract notice regarding the scope for a submarine and underground cable system consisting of design, engineering, procurement, manufacturing, installation, commissioning and maintenance of the cable.

The proposed connection with a capacity of approximately 700 MW will be around 275 kilometres long and will come ashore in Eemshaven (the Netherlands) and Endrup (Denmark).

The startup of the project is planned for August 03, 2015 with the planned completion in December 2018.

The purpose of the power link, named COBRAcable, is to allow the integration of more renewable energy into the European power grid through the Dutch and Danish power systems and to increase security of power supply.

The deadline for the expression of interest for this tender is November 14, 2014.
