The Port of Blyth has been chosen by IHC Engineering Business as the mobilisation port for a major construction contract to start in early 2015.
IHC EB based at Stocksfield are a major supplier of engineering solutions to the offshore energy sector and will build a 2,500 tonne vessel pipe laying system within the Port of Blyth’s South Harbour terminal over a 12 month period.
This will then be shipped out to form part of a large deep sea offshore construction vessel JSD 6000 being built by oil sector giant Petrofac in what is a multi-million pound contract.
The cooperation with the Port will see up to 60 IHC EB personnel working within South Harbour occupying a large assembly shed and adjacent compound close to a deep water quay for load out.
Port Chief Executive, Martin Lawlor, confirmed: “We are delighted to be working with IHC EB on this significant project and hope it is the start of an ongoing relationship. This is another example of our growing reputation as an offshore energy focused port and with ongoing investments we are becoming an increasingly attractive option for the sector as a whole.”
