Westcon Power & Automation has signed a frame agreement with Dolphin Drilling related to inspection and maintenance of Ex-equipment on board of three drilling rigs .
Westcon Power & Automation has signed a frame agreement with Dolphin Drilling AS for the use of the Westcon IRM Ex system on board of three of Dolphin Drilling’s drilling rigs – Borgland Dolphin, Bideford Dolphin and Bredford Dolphin. Westcon says it has for several years worked with the target of developing the optimal support tool to existing maintenance systems used offshore.
With Westcon IRM Ex, Westcon can offer periodic inspection, repair and modification (IRM) on Ex equipment for its costumers without any changes on the existing maintenance systems, Westcon explains in the release. According to Westcon, Ex equipment is a specialized electrical equipment to be used in hazardous areas to prevent explosions.
“The system gives, in other words, a unique digital maintenance tool for the offshore market, and we look forward to work together with Dolphin Drilling on this.”
“We experience that rig owners and operators have a strong focus on safety and complete documentation of Ex equipment on board of the oil installations. The solution that Westcon offers Dolphin Drilling enables inspectors to perform the work with a tablet computer and a continuous transfer of data, giving a detailed status from the rig at any location, the company says. This detailed information makes it possible to report parallel to ongoing inspections of Ex equipment and final documentation to be sent in the costumers setup. Westcon has performed inspections both in the North Sea, at yard and in Singapore on drilling rigs with equal results.
“We are now experiencing a great interest for the solution from Asia – especially from FPSO operators. The feedback is that our system fits well into their life-cycle philosophy. That we have put the PDAs away and use tablet computers gives us new opportunities, such as updated drawings at site as an integrated part of the inspection. The system gives, in other words, an unique digital maintenance tool for the offshore market, and we look forward to work together with Dolphin Drilling on this,” Topnes says.
