Bibby Offshore has taken delivery of two Quantum MkIII 250hp 3000m rated Work Class Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROV), increasing their ROV fleet to nine SMD vehicles, including one Atom and six Quasars.

Each of the high specification Quantum Work Class ROV systems includes SMD’s Extended Tophat Tether Management System (TMS), telescopic A-Frame, umbilical winch, deck pack and fully integrated control cabin.

The Quantum Work Class ROV is the largest vehicle within SMD’s Q-Series Work Class ROV range.

Both systems have been configured for installation onto the Bibby Offshore Olympic Ares subsea support and construction vessel. The ROVs are also configured to be interchangeable with the two Quasar vehicles initially mobilised on this vessel, in keeping with the vessel’s multifunctional capabilities.

Mark Wood , Managing Director of Bibby Remote Support Services, said: “The order for the new Quantum MK III ROV’s is another great opportunity for us to work with SMD. We continue to maintain our strong working relationship with the company who have done an excellent job in the past, to meet our requirements as we continue to expand our business. The two Quantum Mk III ROV’s are a welcome addition to our existing fleet of ROV’s and will greatly enhance our range of remote intervention capabilities to provide best possible solutions for our clients.”

Mark Collins , Deputy Managing Director for SMD ROVs, added: “Bibby have been working with SMD’s latest generation ROV systems for over a year now. This includes Quasar MkII and Atom Work Class ROVs. Through our technical partnership initiatives we are in constant dialogue with our customers, and through this medium we have received excellent feedback on vehicle performance including near 0% downtime and comments of bombproof dependability. This is exactly what SMD set out to achieve with this generation of system and we are delighted Bibby have chosen SMD again to supply their heavy duty construction class ROVs.”
