Opus Offshore, a Singapore-based drilling contractor, has taken delivery of its first drillship.
According to Sino Ship News , a maritime news website based in China, the Opus Tiger 1 mid-water drillship was christened at CSSC’s Shanghai Shipyard on Saturday, November 8, 2014. The drillship is the first of the kind built and designed by a Chinese shipyard.
Maximum operating depth for a Tiger Class drillship is 900m, upgradable to 1.500 m, with maximum drilling depth of 10.000 meters.
Opus Offshore did not reply to an e-mail seeking confirmation. The company has three more drillships under construction at the Shanghai Shipyard. The units will be delivered by 2017.
The drillships will be managed by a recently established joint venture company between Songa Offshore and Opus Offshore, named Songa Opus Offshore Drilling Pte Ltd.
The joint venture company is already operating Songa Mercur and Songa Venus semi-submersible drilling rigs, which Opus Offshore bought from Songa Offshore earlier this year .
