Russian shipping company Sovcomflot said its LNG carrier SCF Arctic will be decommissioned after 45 years of service.
The vessel, which was built in 1969, transported cargoes from the first sub-Arctic project, Kenai LNG in Alaska, until 1993. It joined SCF’s fleet in 2006 when the company started independent operation of carriers to transport LNG.
The SCF Arctic together with SCF Polar were under a long time charter agreement with Stream LNG, a joint venture between Repsol and Gas Natural.
Sovcomflot states that the ship reached its 45th birthday in good condition, but operating the vessel for longer would mean significant repairs and drydocking to get approval for a class which is not economically feasible.
The SCF Arctic completed her service life making call at the port of Durban, South Africa. The vessel will be replaced by the SCF Melampus scheduled to join SCF’s fleet in early 2015.
