On 2 and 3 October 2014, the Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) Norway carried out an audit of Statoil and the development of the Johan Sverdrup field, located in the North Sea.
The PSA says that the audit was focused on materials handling policies, occupational health and safety and maintenance.
The PSA carried out an audit of Statoil’s work to ensure compliance with the regulatory requirements for materials handling policies, occupational health and safety and maintenance in the development project for Johan Sverdrup. The audit was conducted at Aker Engineering & Technology, who are the front end engineering design (FEED) contractors.
The Johan Sverdrup is in the North Sea, 140 kilometres west of Stavanger. The field is being developed in several phases. The first phase consists of a field centre, comprising processing, drilling, riser and accommodation facilities.
Planned production start for Johan Sverdrup is late 2019. The field has a production horizon of 2050.
Result The PSA says that the Johan Sverdrup project is in its FEED stage, with many active processes, largely taking place simultaneously. A number of processes were presented which indicate that they offer a sound basis for Decision Gate 3 (the project sanction decision), but there are varied degrees of maturity between the different facilities, the PSA explains.
It appears that timely analyses are in place that are capable of being used for decision support. This applies within materials handling, OHAS and maintenance, the PSA concludes.
