Italy’s Tuscany and the island of Giglio officials will seek 220 million euros ($274 million) in damages from Costa Cruises for Costa Concordia disaster.

As Reuters reports, Enrico Rossi, Tuscany region’s president, will seek 30 million euros for the damages that Concordia caused to the region’s image and tourism.

Carlo Scarpa, a consultant to Giglio’s local government asked the court in the Tuscan city of Grosseto for 190 million euros in damages. The crucial damage was caused to the island of Giglio’s image and tourism with the decline of 45,000 visitors.

“ To reconstruct the image of Tuscany as a top tourist destination will require years of work, substantial investments and costly national and international advertising campaigns, ” Reuters quoted Enrico Rossi as saying.

According to Reuters, Costa Cruises last year agreed to pay a 1 million euro fine to the Italian state, but victims and local administrations have pursued damages separately.

The Costa Concordia capsized in the vicinity of Tuscan island of Giglio carrying more than 4,000 passengers and crew, and killing 32 people.
