EU’s Pilot LNG project, with the aim of establishing an LNG bunkering infrastructure in Scandinavia, is progressing well.
This infrastructure includes all components required to ship LNG from the gas supplier to the LNG terminal, from the terminal to the bunker vessel, and from the bunker vessel to the LNG fuelled vessels.
Pilot LNG is an EU TEN-T funded project consisting of six Joint Industry Projects (JIP): Scanbunk, Flexi, SSD&B, EVOlution, LNG Sea River and LNG CONV.
Zero Vision Tool, a collaboration method and project platform developed by the Swedish Shipowners’ Association and SSPA, posted several videos showing the Pilot LNG projects and their characteristics.
JIP Scanbunk
Scanbunk is developing a hub for LNG bunkering in Scandinavia. The capacity of the storage is 30 000 m3 and the present operation permit allows a total handling of 250 000 tonnes of LNG per year.
JIP Flexi
Flexi is building a vessel with a fast, efficient and safe bunkering system for LNG bunkering in- and offshore, as well as developing efficient procedures for LNG bunkering. A Dutch shipyard has been contracted for the construction of the vessel, which is planned to begin shortly.
JIP SSD&B
SSD&B is building and demonstrating a LNG feeder vessel with a new, integrated tank design. The construction is about to begin.
JIP LNG Sea River
LNG Sea River is designing and building a small bulk/dry cargo vessel fuelled with LNG without losing cargo carrying capacity. Most of the work related to ship design are finished and the project is now entering the building phase.
JIP LNG CONV
LNG CONV is converting an existing vessel to LNG. At the moment measurements of exhaust emissions are carried out to be compared with emissions after conversion in 2015.
