Around 40,000 cubic meters of sand is currently being placed onto a Dorset beach to protect nearby homes from storms.

Material will be dredged from the Poole Harbor Swash Channel and will be pumped onto the Poole’s Shore Road beach as part of the local councils/Environment Agencies coastal protection scheme.

The work will be undertaken by the trailing suction hopper dredger Magni R, which will be operating 24 hours a day.

A multicat and a crew boat may be operating in attendance at the beach area. The pipeline to the shore will have a submerged pipe from the beach to a floating pipeline.

The submerged pipeline is some 450 meters in length, and approximately 300 meters of floating sections will be attached to the seaward end of the submerged pipeline.

The sand pumping program is expected to last two weeks.
