Balfour Beatty to Operate Thanet OWF’s Offshore Transmission Link

Balfour Beatty Investments Limited has been chosen to operate the offshore transmission system of the Thanet wind farm.

Ofgem has determined to grant an offshore transmission licence to Thanet OFTO Limited, which is the proposed licensee entity incorporated by Balfour Beatty Investments Limited, the successful bidder in respect of the Thanet project.

With 100 Vestas V90 3MW wind turbines, the Thanet Offshore Wind Farm has a generation capacity to deliver 300MW of power to the grid. The infrastructure also includes 1 offshore substation, 100 power cables between turbines and to the offshore substation, and 2 cables laid from the offshore substation to a connection point in Pegwell Bay.
