The Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) Norway has audited hull fabrication for the Aasta Hansteen spar platform.

Statoil is the operator of the Aasta Hansteen field, lying in blocks 6706/12 and 6707/10 in the Norwegian Sea, around 320 kilometres west of Bodø. The field, which is in 1270 metres of water, is under development.

Aasta Hansteen will be developed using a floating integrated platform of the spar type and two subsea templates with a total of eight well slots.

The PSA has carried out an audit into how Statoil is managing the project in respect of follow-up of the spar facility’s hull and of supplier follow-up. The audit was primarily carried out at the offices and production facilities of Hyundai Heavy Industries at Ulsan in South Korea on 21 to 23 October 2014.

The PSA says that no non-conformities were identified during this audit.

According to the PSA, improvement points were identified in respect of: document management; Competence and qualification; Decision support during the transition from design to manufacture.
