Yokogawa has been selected as the main automation contractor for a natural gas liquefaction project that is proposed by LNG Canada.

LNG Canada is a joint venture comprised of Shell Canada Energy (50%) and affiliates of PetroChina (20%), Korea Gas Corporation (15%) and Mitsubishi Corporation (15%).

In addition, Yokogawa Electric International, a Yokogawa unit that manages the company’s global control business, has won an order to provide comprehensive control system-related front-end engineering and design services to CFSW LNG Constructors, the main contractor for LNG Canada. CFSW is a joint venture that was set up by the Canadian subsidiaries of Chiyoda Corporation, Foster Wheeler, Saipem, and WorleyParsons to execute this project.

The proposed LNG Canada project includes the design, construction and operation of a liquefaction plant and facilities for the storage and export of liquefied natural gas, including marine facilities in Kitimat, British Columbia. LNG Canada will initially consist of two LNG processing units, each with the capacity to produce approximately six million tonnes of LNG annually, with an option to expand the project in the future to four trains.

Subject to a financial investment decision by LNG Canada for the proposed LNG project after the completion of the FEED phase, Yokogawa will proceed to deliver its CENTUM VP integrated production control system and ProSafe-RS safety instrumentation system as the project’s MAC.

In this role, Yokogawa will also propose various other solutions to the customer with the aim of ensuring the safe and stable operation of the plant, the company said in a statement.
