Gassco has received consent from the Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) Norway to use a pipeline for gas transport from Knarr field, in the North Sea.

The Knarr field is located in block 34/3 in the Tampen area in the northern North Sea. The field, operated by BG Norge AS, has been developed using subsea well templates for production and injection, and a floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit.

According to the PSA, oil and condensate from the field will be exported by shuttle tanker, while the gas will be transported in a 106-km-long pipeline tied to the FLAGS pipeline system on the UK Continental Shelf for onward transport to St. Fergus in Scotland. Gassco AS will be the pipeline operator when gas transport begins.

The PSA has now given Gassco consent to put the pipeline into commission. However, the UK authorities also need to provide consent for the 12 kilometres of the pipeline on the UK Shelf.
