At the CEDA Dutch Section evening, held on 20 November at Rabobank’s headquarters in Utrecht, three prominent speakers told about their visions of dredging in 15 years from now.
The evening kicked of with Ton Wouterse, Senior Banker Maritime Industries welcoming the guests. He stressed the importance of the dredging sector in the Dutch and Belgian economy and said that the company truly valued its Corporate Membership in CEDA. Since 2007, when Rabobank joined CEDA, he has attended many of the meetings of the Dutch section and very much enjoyed these.
Moving on to the dredging market he pointed out that there are several reasons both in the Netherlands and Belgium for the dredging industry to be optimistic.
Mr Ralf Dekker, Executive Board Member Rabobank, followed with the presentation on the enormous changes that internet technology has already brought to banking and how it will further affect the way banks do business in the future.
The next speaker was Mr Bram Roelse, CEO of Royal IHC. Hubots en the first three laws of Asimov. While unmanned bridges are unlikely before 2030, significant advancement in automation in dredge building and dredging is expected.
The last of the evening’s visionary talks was delivered by Prof Cees van Rhee of the Delft University of Technology, who talked about the effect of ICT on dredging technology. “ Will the same happen with the dredging market what we have seen with the mobile phone market he mused.”
