QED Naval’s Subhub tidal turbine foundation structure has been tested at the new Flowave Ocean Test Facility in Edinburgh.

The Subhub is a foundation structure for wave and tidal turbines.

The flow testing was conducted at 0, 15 and 30 cross flow angles using perforated discs that simulate the drag loads into the foundation structure, in order to generate the correct drag load of the turbines.

The forces and moments in all 6 degrees were measured over a number of different tank speeds to extreme levels.
