Deputy Leader of Essex County Council, Councillor Kevin Bentley made a visit to the Clacton and Holland-on-Sea coastal protection scheme recently to inspect the first completed beaches of the 22 new ones being built to safeguard a 5km stretch of coast.

Cllr Bentley, who is responsible for Economic Growth, Infrastructure, Waste and Recycling, came to visit the scheme as part of Essex County Council’s £4 million contribution to delivering the scheme.

In the visit, Cllr Bentley was able to see the first of the new beaches completed and walk along the promenade which is currently closed to the public. He also saw the heavy plant shaping the sand and shingle mix on the new beaches, a beach recharge and a rock delivery of the Norwegian granite.

Cllr Kevin Bentley, Deputy Leader of Essex County Council , said: “ It was absolutely fantastic to see how much progress has been made on this important project. This scheme will provide additional safety to over 3,000 people. Residents and beach hut users now have a wonderful local resource to enjoy all year round.”

Cllr Mick Page, Leader of Tendring District Council, said: “ To see the difference just five short months has made to this beach is truly remarkable. From having a huge drop on to stones, to a beach you can step from the prom straight on to shows how much this scheme has achieved. The peace of mind it has created for so many people and a truly wonderful facility – this will change people’s lives.”
