Diyar Al Muharraq, one of the leading urban developers in the Kingdom of Bahrain, last week announced the completion of land reclamation works for the whole project.

The shore protection rock armour work is nearing its completion and is expected to be finished by the 1st quarter of 2015.

The reclamation and shore protection services work have been carried out by Great Lakes Nass. Work started in November 2006 and the project has been completed as per schedule.

Following the completion of land reclamation works, “Great Lakes Nass” hired the world’s largest submersible barge (300 meters long x 90 meters wide) to ship their dredgers and other equipment to Suez Canal in Egypt.

Dr. Maher Al Shaer, Chief Executive Officer of Diyar Al Muharraq, said: “ This is a milestone for Diyar Al Muharraq as years of effort and perseverance have brought us to this point wherein a vital and enormous part of the project has been completed well within the stipulated time. We recognize the significance of the enormous efforts taken by “Great Lakes Nass” during this critical period and convey our genuine appreciation to them.”

Monumental in its scale and ambitious in its goals, Diyar Al Muharraq is a valuable addition to the Kingdom and people of Bahrain. Built by the private sector, it will accommodate over 100,000 people, offering an unprecedented opportunity for Bahrainis and others by creating new jobs, new homes and new tourism destinations, and by fostering an immense contribution to the economy as a whole.
