WEPTOS WEC has a simple and enduring triangular structure, connected through a flexible part in the bow. The structure is anchored by the beam positioning itself correctly in the waves’ direction.

Through its floating angular construction, the wave energy converter is able to regulate the wave energy input and reduce the impact during rough weather conditions. The V‐shaped structure absorbs the wave energy through a line of rotors, and each of them transmits the energy to a common axle, directly attached to a generator. This way, an even energy generation throughout the wave duration follows, enabling for other known generator solutions to be applied.

When a wave hits an individual rotor, the mechanics of the joint axle causes it to rotate. After a wave has passed the individual rotor, the center of gravity makes the rotor swing back towards the starting point.

The WEPTOS WEC structure angle is what determines its exposure to the waves. During calm water conditions, waves are small and have little energy, which calls for energy extraction over a wide reach, and the wider the better. During rough water conditions on the other hand, a more concentrated width is beneficial in order to ensure optimal levels of energy extraction and prevent these from surpassing the generator’s capacity. The WEPTOS technology automatically adapts the structure angle to changing wave conditions.

Take a look at the video showing how WEPTOS wave energy converter works.
