The National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Northeast Fisheries Science Center breakwater in Woods Hole, Mass., is being repaired under the terms of a $305,000.00 contract issued by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District.
Construction started on December 11, 2014 and is scheduled to be completed on January 31, 2015. The contract was awarded on September 19, 2014.
“ The work involves repairing those sections of the NOAA-owned breakwater that were damaged by Hurricane Sandy in late October 2012 ,” said Project Manager Mike Walsh, of the Corps’ New England District, Programs/Project Management Division in Concord, Mass. “ The work on this project consists of demolishing the outmost 128 feet of the stone jetty and using those stones to rebuild the remaining inner 126 feet of the jetty.”
Jetty stones placed on the crest of the jetty will be doweled into the underlying stones. NOAA’s Northeast Fisheries Science Center is dedicated to fisheries research.
The project is being managed by the Corps and all work is being accomplished under the supervision of a Corps’ Quality Assurance Representative to assure compliance with contract requirements.
