The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Portland District, partnered recently with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to restore wetlands at the Julia Butler Hansen Wildlife Refuge in Washington.

After constructing a new setback levee the Corps notched the original levee, allowing the Columbia River to flow in. The rest of the original levee will be allowed to erode naturally.
