BP has received consent from the Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) Norway to use the Valhall DP and PCP facilities beyond their original lifetimes.
BP Norge AS (BP) has applied for consent to use the QP, DP and PCP facilities on the Valhall field, in the North Sea, beyond their originally scheduled lifetimes.
According to the PSA, BP wishes to use the DP facility as a wellhead platform until the wells are decommissioned, plugged and closed down. The PCP production facility is no longer active and the PSA says that BP wishes to use it as a bridge support for the bridges between the DP and WP facilities.
The PSA has granted BP consent to use these facilities until December 31, 2023. The consent has been given on certain preconditions relating to load analyses and manning criteria.
QP facility life extension denied
BP has also made an application concerning continued use of the QP facility. The PSA has rejected this part of the application.
Offshore Energy Today previously reported that the PSA turned down an application from BP Norge for consent to extend the operating life of the quarters platform (QP) on the Valhall field. However, the PSA elaborated that uncertainties were present in the analyses used by BP as a basis for its application to extend the operating life of Valhall QP and the PSA has accordingly refused consent for continued use of the facility for accommodation.
