Approximately 10,000m3 of dredged shingle has been deposited on the beaches of Eastoke, Hayling Island.

The 73 m-long trailing suction hopper dredger “Sospan Dau” used a technique known as ‘rainbowing’ to discharges a mixture of sediment and water and create a mound of material high on the foreshore.

This project took place during the last weekend in November 2014. The material was sourced from the Chichester Harbor entrance channel.

This dredging work was undertaken by Boskalis Westminster Ltd, who were working in conjunction with the Chichester Harbor Conservancy and Havant Borough Council.

The aim of the dredging is to maintain safe navigation through the Chichester Harbor entrance channel by removing shingle that has built up there, and depositing it back on the beaches at Eastoke.
